Vintage 1938 Gruen 401-351 Pre-Curvex Men's 10K Gold Filled Dress Watch Art Deco. This gorgeous Gruen watch is from the late 30's of a pre-Curvex series, yet has a curved and flowing design, ref. 401-351. The watch has an interesting 401 caliber which is an early attempt to make a small movement to fit a curved case with an auxiliary sub seconds pinion that is not directly attached to the 3rd wheel, running on 15 jewels. It is cased in a long and elegant 10K gold filled case with stainless back. The dial is all original and elegant two tone with classic Breguet numerals and original set of hands. The watch measures 22mm side to side (excluding crown) and 41mm from top lug to bottom lug. These watches don't come up for sale very often. The crown sits very flush with the case since it is made to wear comfortably, so it is not super easy to pull out unless you have nails. Make sure to view all of the pictures for overall condition.
