Antique English Copeland covered soap dish or sponge box, dating to the late Victorian–Edwardian period (c. 1895–1910). This is a three-piece toiletware form consisting of the base, removable drainer insert, and pierced lid with ring finial.
The piece is decorated with an elegant gilt and garnet rope / twist border, a style typical of high-end Copeland washstand sets. Marked underneath with the impressed Copeland diamond factory mark and hand-painted form number D969, which appears on both the base and lid, confirming the pieces are original to one another.
Designed for use on a washstand or vanity, the lid features ventilation holes and the interior drainer is ribbed to keep soap dry.
